Built in 1922 this community hall was designed by JS & MJ Guthrie of Christchurch. It was built to honour those of the Mount Somers district who lost their lives in service to their country during WWI.

Brief Historical Information:

Built in 1922 as a community hall for the Mount Somers district, providing a place for community gatherings and to honour those of the Mount Somers district who served in World War I.

Designed by Guthrie Brothers architects of Christchurch (J S and M J Guthrie (whose other notable works included: Memorial Entrance Gates, Lancaster Park; Edmond's Factory (1920, demolished); American bungalow, Fendalton (1913); Christchurch Boys High School (1926)).

The foundation stone was laid in a ceremony on 3 June, 1922; and the building was officially opened on 16 Nov 1922. Two marble tablets either side of the main entrance bear the names of the fallen (40 names as at 1923). A supper room was added to the rear of the hall in 1954.

Restoration and Current Owner Story

In 2021 the hall was earthquake strengthened and refurbished.
