Brief Historical Information:
The Bank was built in 1911 and is a wonderful example of the architecture of that time. It survived the Great Raetihi Fire of 1918 and the Manager's house was added at the back in 1938. It is one of only three Category 2 listed historic buildings in the main street of Raetihi.
At the back is the original Stable for the manager's horse and the Hitching Rail on the street has a separate historic classification.
Restoration and Current Owner Story
The building has been fully restored inside and out and won a Heritage Blue Plaque at the inaugural Whanganui Heritage Awards 2020. Bernice and Anthea have since established the building as the Raetihi Arts Trust Gallery and hold significant exhibitions.
